BOTH Broadway sides recorded wins in the Cotswold Hills League on Saturday, with the first team leading the way with a 101-run victory at Elmley Castle in the Premier Division.

Broadway were all out for 194, with new overseas player Chioke Payne scoring a hard-hitting 70, well supported by Gary Hawkins who scored a well-paced 47.

Cooper and Brown both took three wickets as several Broadway batsmen struggled on a good wicket. Broadway were dismissed in the 36th over, leaving the hosts 54 overs to reach their target.

Elmley Castle struggled throughout in their reply against some excellent bowling backed up by some fantastic slip catching. Opening bowler Nick Stewart sent down a ten-over spell unchanged in searing heat, collecting impressive figures of 4-22.

Jamie Powell demonstrated his experience as he went through the Elmley middle order to collect a superb 5-15. Eight of the wickets were caught by the keeper or the slip fielders.

Broadway, who host Shipston on Saturday, collected 23 points as Elmley were all out for 93.

Broadway 2nds beat early season pace-setters Welford by seven wickets in Division Five.

Broadway dismissed Welford for 115, with Josh Burford taking three wickets and Warren Marston, Luke McDonagh and Matt Ross all taking two.

In reply, McDonagh hit an impressive 68 as Broadway reached 116-3 with 25 overs to spare to earn 21 points.

On Sunday morning the junior teams had mixed results, with the U13s beating Bredon but the U11s losing to Bredon.

However, for many youngsters, this was their first ever game and some excellent performances bode well for the future of cricket at Snowshill Road.

Broadway CC are running an exciting three-day junior coaching camp this coming half-term – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8.30am to 12.30pm. The cost is £20 per child.
