BREDON Hill Middle School’s under 13 boys football team have been in sensational form over recent months with success on two fronts.

Not content with being crowned unbeaten district champions, the team have reached the quarter-finals of the national English Schools’ Football Association Boys U13s Playstation Small Schools Trophy.

The competition attracted 142 teams from the outset and Bredon Hill have progressed through five rounds to reach the last eight, with the tie against St Michael’s Middle School of Dorset expected to be played in the next couple of weeks.

Bredon Hill had a bye in the first round before seeing off Alvechurch Middle School 7-2 in the second round and Alcester Grammar School 7-1 in round three.

A 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Grammar School followed in round four before a thrilling last 16 tie saw a 2-2 draw against Arnold Academy of Bedfordshire, who were beaten 3-1 on penalties.

Bredon Hill PE teacher Darren Haines said of the team: “They are a keen set of players who work well as a team and not individuals.”
