THE WINNER of the first AsparaWriting competition was crowned as the curtain came down on the Vale’s aspaagus season.

Matt Dicks clinched the prize of £100 with his story ‘Speared: an Asparaghost’s Story’ and also received a pen courtesy of Cult Pens.

The season came to a close with a ceremony at Evesham Library and Matt was congratulated by Gus the Asparagus Man, the AsparaFairy and author Simon Brett.

Festival creators and organisers Michael Jecks and Sue Jenkinson were joined by a range of writers, enthusiasts and dignitaries to mark the close of the AsparaWriting festival, which is destined to become an integral part of Evesham’s annual

celebrations.

Among the guests were the Mayor of Evesham, Coun Charlie Homer, Gus and the Eve, the AsparaFairy, both of whom have now hung up their spears for another year.
