A DEDICATED youngster from a Pershore school has been selected as one of just a few from the UK to go on the trip of a lifetime.
Pershore High School student Rachel Day is set for a Mexican adventure in August next year in a specially arranged international Girlguiding trip.
Rachel, a member of the 1st Worcester Senior Section of Girlguiding, will travel to Our Cabana in Curenavaca which is one of four Girlguiding world centres and will learn about the country and its culture.
The nine day visit to the South American country will see the hard-working pupil taking part in a service project which will involve planning activities, working with children and the local community as well participating in workshops with Guides from around the world.
To fund the trip, the 16-year-old needs to raise £2,500 and plans to raise funds by organising cake sales, car-boot sales and chocolate bingo events.
An excited Rachel told the Observer: “I’m looking forward to taking part in a challenging community project in a country that I’ve not seen before.
“This trip is a rare opportunity that will hopefully give me the chance to help make a positive difference in a part of the community. I’m also enjoying the challenge of fund-raising this much money in less than a year.”
Clive Corbett, Pershore High School headteacher, said Rachel will thrive during the visit and use the experience wisely.
“There is no doubt that Rachel has been selected for this honour because of her dedication and commitment to all that she does,” he said.
“In addition to her A Level studies, she packs an incredible amount into other activities, both in school time and outside.
“Rachel will definitely rise to the challenge during her time in Mexico and will be a great asset to the team.”
