THE MEDIEVAL period is set to hit a Vale museum when an experienced re-enactment group come to town.

The Feudals Living History Group will be setting up camp at the Almonry tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday (June 1) and with them comes a riot of fun, armoury, clothing and skills in a bid to raise funds for the Great Big Almonry Project.

They will be re-enacting a scene from 1193 when Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine toured England and raised money for the ransom of Richard the Lionheart from the Holy Roman Emperor.

A range of medieval crafts, including cookery, calligraphy, sword combat, weaving and children’s activities will be on show from between 10am and 4pm.

Visitors can also tour inside the tents and experience how people lived while on the move, watching them cook over open fires and trying on their armour.

Tonia Collett, Almonry manager, said: “We’re so grateful to Trevor Edwards from Hawkes Edwards and Cave for suggesting this great opportunity to help us raise funds for the Great Big Almonry Project, and to Feudals who have volunteered their time and expertise.

“The bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund was submitted in March, but whilst we’re waiting for their decision, the fund-raising continues.”
