A PERSHORE student proved her work was out the top drawer when her picture book claimed first place in a national competition.
Magda Rumney, of Pershore High School, scooped the top prize in the Secondary Category Awards at the 2014 ReadingZone Picture Book Competition with her story ‘The Timekeeper’.
The Year 9 student beat off competition from 1,000 entries with judge Guy Parker-Rees hailing it as ‘wonderfully atmospheric’ with ‘beautifully crafted drawings’.
Caroline Horn, editor of ReadingZone, said: “We do hope Magda is pleased with the award and we would like to congratulate her on her achievement.”
A total of 50 printed copies of the book will be sent to the High School, along with a set of ten fiction stories based on fear and suspense, the themes used throughout the competition.
