Calls for action at former pub

COUNCILLORS will write to the owners of the derelict former Vauxhall Inn pub to urge them to breathe new life into the site.

Members of Evesham Town Council agreed to the action following a meeting on Monday after the long-running issue was raised by Coun Mark Goodge.

Proposals to refurbish the run down pub were submitted in 2013 and would have seen the site converted into four takeaway outlets with a drive-through and car parking.

No further progress has been made since and Coun Goodge echoed the concerns of many residents on social media sites such as Evesham Questions.

“One of the things we need to be aware of is the extent to which the public can sometimes think we do not care about the town.” he said.

“I think we need to be seen to actually caring about the town and sites such as this.

“It costs us very little to write a letter to both the landlords and Wychavon District Council expressing our wish as a town council that some action is taken.” he added.

His comments were warmly supported by many councillors including Coun Gerry O’Donnell who agreed something needed to be done.

Town Mayor Coun Charlie Homer echoed the comments and said: “The site is at the entrance to the town so action would be appreciated.”
