Festival continues to grow

EVESHAM’S famous link to asparagus was celebrated in style with a special two-day event all about the Gras.

Building on the growing success of the British Asparagus Festival which launched last month, AsparaFest was held at Ashdown Farm in Badsey on Saturday and Sunday (May 31 and June 1).

Green-filled fun was on the menu at the village farm as the event held its second bumper weekend event following last year’s inaugural festival.

CBeebies character Mr Bloom headlined on Saturday and joined a wide range of activity including morris dancing, bhangra and belly dancing.

There were also cookery demonstrations from celebrity chef Felice Tocchini as well as food suppliers, growers and farm shops.

Event organiser Nigel Smith told the Observer: “It was a fantastic success. It was great to see so many people come out and enjoy the event as we had serious concerns with the weather

“I think we managed to pull in a bigger crowd than we did last year and it has really set us up for next year’s event.”
