Eyesore toilets torn down

Evesham Editorial 25th Sep, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

AN ‘EYESORE’ toilet block has finally been demolished and removed from the heart of Evesham.

The dilapidated toilets on Crown Meadow had previously only been used to supply electricity for events at the site and nearby parking meters and were located in an area prone to flooding.

Wychavon District Council were granted permission from the Environment Agency to remove it back in July last year.

Calls for the disused building in Crown Meadow to be taken down were revived though this year and residents eventually got their wish after the Tour of Britain passed through the town on Wednesday, September 10.

Work had been put on hold to ensure Evesham wasn’t disrupted during the event.

Rubble removed from the site has been reused on other Wychavon projects and the site will now be levelled and reseeded.

The play area is also back in action after it was removed during the work to the Abbey Bridge.

Coun Ron Davis, members for contracted services, environment and health, said: “I’m very pleased that this work has now happened and to see Crown Meadow looking better.

“This is great news for the town and visitors to the meadow and riverside.”
