Help bring back the Evesham Carnival

Evesham Editorial 29th May, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

THE LATEST step in efforts to revive the Evesham Carnival will be made with a meeting at the Hampton Ferry Cafe.

Anyone who is interested in playing a part in bringing the historic event back to life is asked to attend the meeting on Thursday (June 5) from 6.30pm.

The next step builds on the efforts from Vale of Evesham Round Table to breathe new life into the event and a huge amount of support on the popular ‘Photos and Memories of days past in Evesham’ Facebook group.

Work is already underway in a bid to bring the event, which was last held in 2008 but any bid to bring it back will need local support.

Neighbouring Pershore’s annual event continues to go from strength to strength with an estimated 13,000 packing into the town during this year’s event.

The fresh bid comes three years after Evesham town councillor Jim Bulman raised the posssibility of resurrecting the event.

Speaking at the time, he said: “I think if Pershore can host a successful carnival which brings the community together then why can’t a bigger town like Evesham do the same thing?

Emma Haynes from the ‘Photos and Memories of days past in Evesham’ Facebook group said: “We are holding the meeting to go over what needs to be done and who is willing to help get things moving.

“We have been told the Round Table are looking into resurrecting the carnival so the people on my Facebook group who have offered their help, fingers crossed, will be working with the Round Table.

“It is all quite up in the air at the moment but anyone else who would be interested in helping get this off the ground should come to the meeting next week.
