Local charity supports school

STUDENTS from Simon De Montfort Middle School welcomed representatives from a well-known Vale charity into school.

Pupils learned more about the John Martin charity during a special assembly as representatives including vice chairman Julie Westlake took to the stage to explain about their work.

The charity supports local causes such as schools and groups using money from land owned by John Martin, a yeoman farmer who lived in Hampton.

Following his death in 1714, Mr Martin’s will revealed various trusts to enable children and young people to have a Christian upbringing, a good education and for those in need to receive help.

The group continues to make donations to this day and a number of presentations were also made to students as part of an exciting morning.
