AN EVESHAM drama group are getting set for their next big show which sees them bring a West End classic to town.

The Phoenix Theatre Group will perform their own updated version of ‘Fame’ at the Evesham Arts Centre between Thursday and Saturday next week (October 16 to 18).

With a cast of 35 members, the show brings song and dance in this high energy version of the 1980’s classic TV show.

Brought up to date, it tells the story of the New York High School of Performing Arts and follows the adventures of several students including fame-obsessed Carmen, ambitious actress Serena, wisecracking comedian Joe, violinist Schlomo and dyslexic dancer Tyrone.

The show’s director Greg Clarke said: “We thought it was a good idea to bring the show up to date as the recent professional UK tour did.

“I’m amazed at the talent we have in the group. It’s been a very challenging production with more dance routines than we’ve ever done in a show, and with all of the cast under the age of 19, it’s a showcase of the talented youngsters we have in and

around Evesham at this time.”

Phoenix Theatre Group are now entering their 25th year and chairman Keith Norledge added: “Last year’s production We Will Rock You really stretched us technically.

“This year we have more complex dance routines and singing than ever.”

Evening performances start at 7.30pm with an additional matinée performance taking place on Saturday (October 18) starting

at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost £12 and are available by visiting www.eveshamartscentre.co.uk or calling 01386 446944.
