PERSHORE’S MP took to the courts to serve up a new era for the town’s ‘fabulous’ indoor tennis centre.
Harriet Baldwin was joined by Davis Cup legend Danny Sapsford at the Avon Bank Lodge site to hit the first rally under the brand new LED lighting system.
The celebrations took place after the centre managed to rake in enough money for the new lights, which
Mrs Baldwin formally switched on to signal the improvements on Saturday (January 17).
“Pershore Indoor Tennis Centre is a fabulous resource for local people and it was great fun to have a knockabout with a former Davis Cup player,” Mrs Baldwin said.
“As a tennis fan myself, it was great to see so many people gathered together to celebrate the sport and I was keen to congratulate the club’s members for raising the money to give local people a state-of-the-art
facility.
“I was particularly pleased to see so many boys and girls being inspired to play tennis and I hope that I have seen some champions of the future playing in Pershore.”
Mr Sapsford runs his own Bright Ideas for Tennis charity which encourages young people to get involved in the sport, and next month he will play tennis for 24 hours in a bid to raise more funds.
