PERSHORE returned to top spot in Birmingham League Division Three thanks to a brilliant run chase which secured a two-wicket victory at Whitchurch on Saturday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Shropshire side racked up 324-5 as captain and opener Maisam Hasnain Jaffri led the way with an unbeaten 153 off 155 balls.
It was hard work for all of the Pershore bowlers, although Taylor Pugh’s 3-44 off ten overs was an excellent effort in the circumstances.
Pershore knew a good start was essential if they were to chase down their target in 50 overs and opener Adam Wiffen ensured they got it as he struck a blistering 136 off just 97 balls.
There was excellent support from Liam Ridings (56) and the visitors eventually reached 325-8 with five balls to spare to bag 20 points.
Pershore, who have 83 points from five games, visit Worfield on Saturday.
