Vase victory is the icing on the cake for Evesham

EVESHAM capped a fine promotion-winning season with a dramatic 10-9 victory over Cleobury Mortimer to win the North Midlands Vase on Sunday.

Having already secured promotion into Midlands Three West (South) for next season as Midlands Four West (South) runners-up, Evesham held their nerve to win a nail-biting Vase final at Dudley Kingswinford.

Evesham’s Shropshire opponents had surged to the Midlands Four West (North) title but their hopes of adding more silverware to their collection were dashed by a gritty performance by the Vale side as Evesham won the first of six finals played on the day.

The try-scorer for Evesham was Matthew Watson, whilst Michael Harris converted the try and also fired over a crucial penalty.

Victorious captain Nathan Chambers said: “This is a very proud moment for the club and thoroughly deserved by everyone involved on and off the pitch.

“It’s a great way to end a fantastic season.”

Meanwhile, it has been announced that next season’s Midlands Three West (South) division will consist of the following sides: Cheltenham North, Evesham, Harbury, Ledbury, Old Coventrians, Old Leamingtonians, Old Wheatleyans, Pershore, Rugby Lions, Shipston-on-Stour, Southam, Woodrush.
