A HOLE in one in golf is a rarity requiring skill and luck in equal measure and the majority never achieve this feat but console themselves by enjoying rounds of drinks at the expense of those that do – and none more so than on Monday when Evesham seniors returned from the course after the final round of their Winter League competition to find bottles of scotch and a tray of glasses waiting to accompany their coffee.
Not one but two of their number had recorded a hole in one within 30 minutes of each other – in the same competition and on the same hole – Evesham’s notorious 6th (par 3) with its roller-coaster green.
For previous captain Mike Abraham (15 handicap) it was his first hole in one and for Bryan Rogers (21 handicap) it was his first in an official competition, although he did admit to having done so once before – at the same hole some years previously whilst pottering around the course of an evening with his wife.
It might not be one for the Guinness World Records, but is certainly an Evesham Golf Club record!
