Stour Excelsior spring opening day shock

STOUR EXCELSIOR inflicted a surprise 2-1 defeat on Division One champions Bretforton Old Boys as the Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League season got under way.

The Shipston side scored through Wilson and Johnson, whilst Beddoes netted for visitors Old Boys.

Division One new-boys Tewkesbury Town opened their campaign with a convincing 5-1 win at Alcester Town as Bloom (3) and Tarling (2) netted for Tewkesbury and Richardson grabbed the lone goal for the hosts.

Cider Mill edged out visitors Mickleton Rangers 3-2 in an entertaining game at Cropthorne in which Stevens, Reading and Phelps scored for the home side and Beech and Robinson were on the mark for Rangers.




Hosts Evesham WMC and Pinvin United drew 2-2, with Scrivens and Grady registering for the Workies and Bellamy and Bulford on target for Pinvin.

In Division Two, Badsey Recreation enjoyed a 6-2 home win over Charlton Old Boys. Benfield (3), Neale, Robinson and Andrew scored for Badsey and Old Boys netted through Petersen and Chapman.


New Inn Pershore were convincing 6-1 victors at reformed Offenham Rovers through strikes from Ballard (2), Green (2), Grant and Smith, leaving Burrows’ goal as a consolation for Rovers.

Newly-promoted Sun Inn needed an own goal to overcome visitors Alderton 2-1. Wiltshire was also on target for the hosts and Goodwin scored for Alderton.

Bredon shared four goals with visitors Dragons in a 2-2 draw whilst Brocklehurst gave Quinton an interval lead over visitors Harvington before Dalloway netted to ensure a 1-1 draw.

The top scorers of the day were in Division Three as Evesham United Sunday hit double figures against Ashton 88.

Steele (5), Saunders, Hensey, Quirke, Hincks and Wallace scored the goals for the hosts in their 10-3 success, whilst Ashton netted through Johnson, James and Hunter.

Ambi Allsports started in style with a 5-0 home win over Avon Titans in which Aiden Booth (3), Tarry and Gary Booth scored.

Pebworth were 5-1 winners at home to newcomers TDMS. Paul Smaylen, Steve Smaylen, Smith, Withers and Williams scored for Pebworth and Curtis was on the mark for the visitors.

Bretforton Old Boys Reserves opened with a 3-0 home triumph over Stour Excelsior Reserves as Mike and Matt Jennings and Dovey scored.

Broadway United Reserves won a thriller against Stratford United as they came from two goals down at the interval to prevail 5-4.

Luke Sallis (2), Cooper, Witts and an own goal edged it for hosts Broadway, with Stratford scoring through Hawkins (2), Beesley and Glover.

Fortis started well with a 3-2 win at Bengeworth. The Badsey based team scored through Hancox, Puttock and Dartnell, whilst Pilling and Cooke struck for Bengeworth.
