PERSHORE Town defeated bottom of the table Pelsall Villa at the Winstanley King George V Stadium on Saturday in a dramatic encounter.

Despite Town taking the lead in the first minute through Danny Lennon’s curled shot from the edge of the box, it was the visitors who were the better team in the first half an hour, during which they hit the bar and scored twice through Dean Williams, with a penalty and volleyed shot from 12 yards.

Town eventually settled into the game and created chances, with Lennon and Joe Robinson both testing Pelsall’s keeper with shots.

Mark Hands headed wide when well placed for Town and missed further good opportunities through Joe Walsh and Lennon.

Town equalised in the 34th minute when Jake Donnelly floated a good cross deep into the box for ex-Littleton striker Stuart Hall to score from close range on his home debut.

The second half saw Town step up a gear and dominate for long periods and they took the lead when Hands headed across goal from a Matt Chambers free kick into the path of Hall, who scored his second from six yards.

At this stage the result was not in doubt, with Town creating good chances, and they could have increased their lead through Joe Walsh and Matt Mitchell before substitute Steve Roche scored Town’s fourth in the 83rd minute, turning inside his defender and finishing with a right-footed shot from inside the box.

Town’s recent improved form has seen them rise to 16th in the table and they entertain Racing Club Warwick on Saturday.
