Pershore on the home straight to promotion

PERSHORE are closing in on promotion to the Birmingham League after cruising to a 109-run victory over struggling Redditch Entaco on Saturday.

The Plums’ home victory leaves them 52 points clear at the top of the Worcestershire League Division One table with just five matches remaining, the first of which is Saturday’s trip to third placed Droitwich.

Pershore recorded their 14th league win of the campaign in convincing fashion as they put paid to a Redditch side who 24 hours earlier had been in action against the Lashings All Stars at the Kingfishers’ Bromsgrove Road home, albeit with only just over eight overs bowled before rain forced an abandonment.

The home batsmen ensured the mood of the Redditch players did not improve as the top order all made fine contributions in a commanding total of 281-6.

Liam Ridings (63), Adam Wiffen (72) and Chris Ayliffe (64) all made half-centuries and the writing was on the wall for the visitors long before Tom Field finished with figures of 4-56.

Redditch have found batting difficult all season and things did not get any easier at The Bottoms despite 41 from Australian Joe Scarcella at the top of the order.

Only past captain Perry Derrick with 48 in the middle order provided any other notable resistance as Matthew Brace took 3-27 off ten overs and Redditch were restricted to 172-9.
