Pershore debutants show their class at memorial gala

PERSHORE Swimming Club was invited to the Ada Hampton Memorial Gala in Redditch which attracted some very strong clubs from across the West Midlands.

Pershore found themselves up against Bromsgrove, Leamington Spa, Redditch, Kingsbury and Oldbury and, whilst Leamington proved too strong on the night, Pershore delivered a very creditable fourth place with 191 points as only nine points separated the teams in second to fourth, showing how tight the event was as Pershore staged an amazing second half fightback.

Keen to continue to develop the club talent, there were six debutants in the Pershore team including Emilia Fowles (ten), George Howard (nine), Ellie Williams (ten), Matthew Franks (eight), Catherine Rendall-Baker (nine) and Lily Mullen (nine).

There were some great swims throughout the gala and individual wins went to Patrick Heeks (12) in the 50m backstroke, Alex Barry (12) in the 50m breaststroke, Kieran Cooper (12) in the 50m freestyle, Jasmine Franks (11) in the 50m fly and 50m freestyle and Gabriella Barry (ten) in the 50m backstroke and 25m fly.

The relay teams were also strong with wins for the girls’ medley relay 11 years team of Jasmine Hoskins, Caitlin Yates, Jasmine Franks and Sophie Thomas, whilst also winning their medley relay was the boys’ 12-years team of Owen Kirby, Kieran Cooper, Patrick Heeks and Ronan Williams.

There were also 11 second places and seven third places in various individual and team events.

The full team excluding those named above included James Heeks, Grace Styler, Cameron Leach, Ollie Smith, Ned Meredith, Olivia Howard, Annie Garrett, Ethan Stanley, Leah Saunders, Jess English, Luke Drayton and Charlotte Downey.

This result for Pershore shows there is some talent coming through the club right across the age range. If your child is interested in joining PSC, call Tom Naughton on 07467 022315.
