BROADWAY Golf Club ladies participated in their Stableford on a day when the weather was kind and the course played beautifully and Chris Parkinson took advantage to achieve first place with a superb 36 points.
She was closely followed by Debbie Donoghue with 35 and Brenda Whittingham came third with a well earned 33 points.
At the weekend it was the Captain’s Charity Am/Am which brought teams out to play at Broadway on a day when the elements provided a mix of torrential rain, wind and, later in the day, glorious sunshine!
Nothing could dampen the spirits of the players, however, as some exceptional scores soon began to flood in.
With the best two scores to count in each team, coming home in first place in the all-men’s category with a magnificent 87 were Matt Sollis, Steve Moore, Ollie Storer and David Drinkwater.
In the mixed category Dean Baxter, Sue Barker, Will Icke and Jane Wheeler took first place with an excellent 81 points and in the ladies’ event Lin Everitt, Pauline O’Hagan, Jayne Potter and Henrietta Cooke were first with a superb 79.
An incredible £2,500 was raised on the day and will be divided between club captain Richard Stone’s charity – MacMillan Cancer Support – and ladies’ captain Ann Fairbairn’s charity – Birmingham Children’s Hospital Renal Unit.
