THERE was great excitement at Broadway Golf Club as the ladies took part in their 36-hole Club Championship, which was won by Pauline O’Hagan.
On a day which looked as though it was going to provide ‘blistering’ temperatures, cold drinks and sun cream were in plentiful supply.
With lighting fast greens and a run on the ball which had not been experienced for a while, conditions could not have been better, but results on the first 18 proved surprising, however, as scoring appeared a tough challenge.
A welcome breeze and an acceptable amount of cloud cover during the second round provided much more tolerable conditions and the results reflected this.
Showing all the grit and resilience of a true champion, O’Hagan – who last won the Club Championships in 2001 – brought in a magnificent 171 gross to easily clinch the title.
Last year’s winner Vicky Watkins earned a well deserved runner-up position with a superb 174 gross and Lin Andrew achieved best nett with an excellent 145, making her the worthy winner of the prestigious Julia Ward Vase.
Supporting the club champions on the day and winners of the Summer Stableford this time were Silver Division’s Sheila Lawson on 34 points and Helen Perry 30 points and in the Bronze Division it was Trish Gould with 32 points and Chris Moulder 32 on countback.
