THE SOUTH Worcestershire Triples League held its AGM and prize presentation at Bredon Bowling Club and it was an occasion to savour for champions Aston Somerville A.

The SWT League was formed in 1981 with just four teams and the following year grew to six teams. By 1988 the league had grown to ten teams, comprising of five clubs – each with A and B teams.

These five clubs – which still are the current clubs – are Aston Somerville, Bredon, Evesham, Overbury and Pershore.

It was in that year of 1988 that Aston Somerville first joined the league and it has taken them 28 seasons to finally win their first league championship, as they won the league a staggering 26 points ahead of their nearest rivals Evesham A.

Prize presentations were made by chairman and results co-ordinator Geoff Hinton and secretary and treasurer Richard Woodward.

The SWT League winner trophy and a cheque for £125 won by Aston Somerville A and presented to Brian Wilmore, whilst the runners-up trophy and a cheque for £75 won by Evesham A was presented to Jim Sisson.

The 2015 season saw a new trophy introduced for the best placed highest B team in the league and this was won by Overbury B, together with a cheque for £25, presented to Barry Robinson.

The SWT Gala Day is an all-day event and was this year hosted by Evesham Bowls Club.

The trophy for first place was won by Pershore A and presented to Glyn Harris, whilst Evesham A won the runners-up trophy which was presented to Jim Sisson.

Next season the SWT League will start on Tuesday, May 3.
