Stafford Town 1 Pershore Town 3
Midland Football League Division One
PERSHORE Town recorded their second away win of the week on Saturday courtesy of a second half Danny Lennon hat-trick.
However, such a satisfying conclusion for the visitors did not appear to be on the cards initially as Pershore, who were missing several key players, started the match nervously.
Stafford had several good chances before taking the lead through Jake Turner’s shot after 16 minutes and afterwards visiting keeper Andrew Yarnold made a couple of decent saves as Pershore were a little fortunate to only trail by one goal at the break.
Manager Scott Walsh inspired the visitors to a much-improved performance in the second half and Town passed the ball well and created chances.
Stuart Hall hit the bar from 25 yards with an excellent chipped effort after 57 minutes before Lennon equalised a minute later. Having got away from his defender, the keeper saved his first effort, but Lennon fired the rebound in off the far post.
In the 74th minute Lennon again made space and his right-footed shot from the edge of the box beat the keeper at his near post.
The former Evesham United attacker’s hat-trick was completed with only a couple of minutes remaining when, having dribbled his way into the box, he fired a fierce right-footed effort past the keeper.
Town, now up to 15th, face another mid-table side when they entertain Southam United at the Winstanley King George V Stadium on Saturday.
