SUNDAY saw a westerly 10mph wind with an occasional gust set the conditions for racing at Arden Sailing Club, Defford, and it was the ladies who took the honours.
Five boats took part in the second race of the Pursuit series where the boats are set off at different times depending on the RYA handicap for each.
First off was the Heron with the Comets following eight minutes later and the Laser after another four minutes. This process is intended to set faster boats the challenge of attempting to catch and pass the slower boats.
Results: Tricia Wood (Comet) 1st place, Malcolm Colledge (Comet) 2nd, David Bryden (Heron) 3rd, Stuart Stephen (Laser) 4th and Keith Hodges (Comet) 5th.
In the second race of the day, Strensham series (2), five helms again took to the water for the one-lap race, where the boats are required to sail up to Strensham Lock and back to the club.
Stuart Stephen (Laser) made a clean start and was making good progress upstream until he neared the far buoy where the unpredictable wind conditions allowed the Comets to close the gap.
Sadly, although Stuart finished first on the water, he was placed third after the RYA handicap was applied, leaving Tricia Wood to make it two wins out of two.
Results: Tricia Wood (Comet) 1st, David Bryden (Heron) 2nd, Stuart Stephen (Laser) 3rd, Keith Hodges (Comet) 4th and Malcolm Colledge (Comet) 5th.
Why not come along to the club on Sunday, May 18 between 11am and 4pm and have a free go at sailing on the River Avon at Arden Sailing Club’s taster day?
