Junior rowers make a flying start

Evesham Editorial 21st Oct, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

THERE was an exciting start to Evesham Rowing Club’s winter competition season as Saturday’s Junior Head of the River race provided the town’s junior squad with a haul of 16 medals.

Evesham were pleased to welcome 12 rowing clubs as athletes ranging in ages from 11 to 18 competed in 30 events over the 2,000m upstream course from the rugby club to the boathouse.

The Evesham crews faced stiff opposition throughout the day from some exceptional squads and congratulations go to Evesham’s Becky Goodwin and Alex Lacey in singles and also the quad of Olivia Evans, Georgie Banton, Ariana Jones, Rachel Egan and cox Katie Griffiths, who all won gold medals.

The quad of Tom Lacey, Ed Bragg, Toby Ellis, James Edwards and cox Georgii Bragg won silver, while Roanne Foister and Alex Edwards won bronze in their singles and Roanne earned her second bronze in her double with Sophie Evans.

Well done to all who competed, all the coaches and helpers. The club now looks forward to the Masters of the Avon and Senior Head competed over 4,000m on Saturday, November 29.
