Home advantage proves vital

DIVISION Two sides Tesco United and Broadway United Reserves picked up their first points of the Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League season with respective 2-1 and 1-0 home wins over Charlton Old Boys and Ecosamba.

Stevens scored twice for Tesco with Charlton netting through Chris Clements, whilst a second half Wes Parker strike was enough for Broadway to overcome Ecosamba.

Alderton maintained their perfect start to head the division as Spencer (2) and Dawson scored in a 3-1 home success against Mickleton Rangers, for whom Collier scored.

New Inn Pershore ensured a clean sweep of home wins in the division with an excellent 2-0 victory over much-fancied Tewkesbury Town thanks to goals from Green and Brant.




Quinton moved to the top of Division Three with a 9-0 home romp over Ambi Allsports in which the village team scored through Clifford (3), Brocklehurst (2), Tom and James Drinkwater, Pitcher and an own goal.

Stour Excelsior Reserves earned three points with a narrow 3-2 home win over Stratford United thanks to goals from Wright, Pratt and Bowcock for the Shipston side, whilst Dale and Dixon netted for Stratford.


In the only Division One fixture, Alcester Town moved into second place thanks to a comfortable 4-0 home victory over Stour Excelsior in which Parker (2) and Sallis were amongst the scorers.

It was a reasonable day for local clubs in the WFA county cups. In the Junior Cup, Harvington defeated Bridgefield 3-1, Inkberrow saw off Evesham United Sunday 2-1, Cropthorne beat Bewdley Arches on penalties after a 2-2 draw, Badsey Recreation also won on spot kicks after a 2-2 draw against Redditch Town 2015, Jacksons Fairfield defeated Hylton Road Rovers 5-1 and Broadway United accounted for VBL Sports 3-2.

In the Minor Cup, Bengeworth won 3-2 against Ashton 88, Dragons beat Fortis 2-1 and Pebworth defeated GDL Athletic on penalties following a 3-3 draw.
