EVESHAM Wheelers member Steve Goodbier recently completed the challenging Mae Mr Pickwick yn mynd i chwilio am ddreigiau a chwedlau 600km Audax held near the summer solstice to maximise the use of daylight.

The event included 9,500m of climbing and started from Tewkesbury, with controls at Monmouth, Llandovery, Devil’s Bridge, Barmouth, Llanrwst, Aberhafesp and Leominster.

Goodbier completed the event in 26 hours, 32 minutes at an average speed of 14.3mph, which included a dedicated night stop that allowed only four hours’ sleep in an event which is considered to be one of the UK’s most gruelling long distance challenges.

Goodbier’s fellow Wheeler Andrew Bolton rode the Worcester Inter-club Time Trial on the K46/10 course, which was won by Matthew Millward of Worcester St John’s club in 21 minutes, 18 seconds.

Bolton timed in at 22.33 to place fifth in a field of over 50 entrants.

On Sunday several Wheelers rode out to Birtsmorton Court to celebrate former President Paul Stockdale’s 50th birthday and a great day was had by all as riders clocked up 60 miles upon their return to Evesham.
