BADMINTON:

EVESHAM’S Carl Fordham ended a mixed 2015 by adding another medal to his tally.

The Vale player teamed up with Cheshire’s Rachel Green in the final tournament of the year, the Derby Under-17s Bronze at Etwall Leisure Centre in Derby.

It was the first time they had played together, but they soon found a winning formula. After winning their first match 21-7, they went on to win the second 21-15 to set up a group-deciding match against the third seeds.

They won this tight match 21-18 to set up a semi-final tie against the No.1 seeds.

This was another close contest which they eventually lost 21-18 but they went on to take the bronze medal overall.

It has been a mixed year for Fordham, with some success along the way.

In February, Fordham won gold in the Cardiff U17 Open boys singles while some close games in the u17 mixed doubles at Gloucester in March and Nottingham in October meant he just missed out on a quarter-final place at both tournaments after playing well in the group games.

After another trip to Wales in November, he progressed to the semi-final in the singles but was beaten by the eventual winner at the Gwent Open.
