SKIPPER Nathan Chambers hailed a “great team performance and result” as promoted Evesham began their Midlands Three West (South) campaign with a 39-8 victory over Warwickshire outfit Southam.
The hosts scored five tries to secure maximum points as Mike Harris, Matthew Watson (2), Chambers and Andrew McGrann all crossed the whitewash.
Chambers said: “We have had a good pre-season and two very challenging games (one friendly and one cup game) in the build-up to the league season, which paid dividends.
“It is very nice to hit the ground running as we look to build and improve on the strides we made last year.
“The forwards worked immensely hard to provide a platform for the backs, who were clinical and composed in response.”
On Saturday Evesham make the short journey to Cheltenham North, who drew 7-7 against visitors Woodrush in their season opener.
