EVESHAM’S title challenge in the Wildmoor Spa Tennis League Premier Division stuttered for the second week in a row.

Previous joint leaders Evesham were held to a 2-2 draw at third placed Studley A.

The opening rubber went Evesham’s way as Studley pair Damian Hampton and Mark Willmore lost to Andy Crowther and Simon Wall 6-4, 6-2 but then the hosts beat Chris Francis and Ray Foster-Morison (Evesham) 6-2, 6-2.

Meanwhile, Studley A duo Martyn Richards and Paul Farmer beat Francis and Foster-Morison 6-3, 7-5, but lost to Crowther and Wall 1-6, 2-6.

The result means Evesham now trail leaders Stratford by two points after the latter swept aside Alcester 4-0.

Ardencote Manor moved up to join Studley A in third place with both on ten points after they defeated Littleton 3-1 away from home, while Henley-in-Arden were held to a 2-2 draw at bottom side Studley B.

In Division One, Moreton-in-Marsh have opened up a five-point gap at the top with 14 points following a great 3-1 victory at Pershore A, who drop to third.

Claverdon leap into second place thanks to a resounding 4-0 away victory over Snitterfield, while Whitnash moved up the table to joint fourth position with Snitterfield after a 3-1 away win over Inkberrow.
