EVESHAM’S All Starz Gymnastics Club took a six-strong competition team to take part in the West Midlands Four-Piece Championships held at the University of Worcester on Sunday and the squad came away with a silver team medal and two individual medals.
It is the first time the club has competed regionally and the youngsters from All Starz were up against gymnasts from much bigger established clubs in the Midlands including Worcester, Uttoxeter, Wyre Forest and Burton-on-Trent.
The event saw the gymnasts compete in the advanced 11 years and under category and all the Evesham competitors put in a series of superb and controlled performances under pressure.
The All Starz team consisted of Leah Beasely, Amelia Gearey, Liberty Houghton, Ella Campbell, Sian Culwick and the youngest of the team Rosalie Williams, who is only eight years old.
The girls competed in four disciplines including floor, vault, bars and trampette, with marks counting for both the team and individual competitions.
After an outstanding performance, the All Starz team finished in the silver medal position with a score of 148.95, and two of the team also got podium positions in the individual event.
Gearey took the bronze medal in the individual all-round event with a score of 29.55 and her team-mate Culwick scored 30.00 to win the individual silver medal with a series of impressive performances.
All Starz coach Emma Williams said: “This is a fantastic result for the team and testament to the hours and hours of practise all our gymnasts do each week.
“We always knew this was going to be a tough competition so to walk away with a team and two individual medals is a great achievement. All our girls did the club proud.”
All Starz Gymnastics Club train throughout the week at The De Montfort School in Evesham and at Evesham Leisure Centre on Saturday mornings. If you are interested in taking up gymnastics, contact Emma Williams on 07888 713544 or e-mail [email protected].
