A SECOND walkover victory in the space of three matches enabled Evesham to return to the top of Midlands Three West (South) and leaves them tantalisingly close to promotion with one match remaining.
The five points awarded following scheduled visitors Shipston’s failure to field a team proved enough to take the Vale side back to the summit as previous leaders Southam were beaten 22-19 at Cheltenham North, meaning Southam drop to third behind second placed Rugby Lions.
A thrilling final day now awaits when Evesham travel to Southam knowing a draw or victory will seal a top two finish and promotion, whilst even a bonus point defeat may prove enough.
Second placed Lions also face a challenging fixture at home to Ledbury who have won 15 of their 21 league matches this season.
Evesham did get the chance to flex their muscles on Saturday as they played Burton in a friendly and secured a 49-0 victory.
