Coventry Copsewood 0 Pershore Town 2
Midland League Division One
PERSHORE chalked up a third win in a week after two goals from Gareth Evans completed a smash-and-grab raid at Copsewood on Saturday.
A third clean sheet in a row was reward for another rock-solid defensive display by Quentin Townsend’s resurgent team, who are up to 12th.
Copsewood enjoyed a significant amount of the ball, but the Pershore back four of captain Shaun Griffiths, James Walker, Steve Webb and Myles Jones put in a resolute performance, limiting the hosts to only a couple of chances.
Supported by Steve Roche and Dane Aldington who worked tirelessly in midfield, Town kept a tight grip on proceedings and grabbed two goals on counter-attacks.
The opener came in the 34th minute when Evans was put through by Roche. The advancing Copsewood keeper Scott Dutton forced Evans wide, but the striker shot from 15 yards and the ball looped into the net beyond covering defender George Whitelaw near the line.
Pershore’s second goal came in the 90th minute when substitute Scott Finnegan put Evans in behind the back line and he rounded keeper Dutton to fire into the net.
On Saturday Town entertain fifth placed Lichfield City at the 2020SolarPV Stadium.
