THE WEATHER was set fair and the course played superbly when Broadway Golf Club’s ladies competed in their England Golf Medal and Scratch Salver qualifier.
Awarded to the best gross scores in each division, there was no doubting who would take the title in the Silver Division as Linda Carruthers strode to victory with an astonishing 80 gross to take the trophy.
Earning a commendable runner-up position was Lin Everitt who brought in an excellent 85.
In the Bronze Division, Juliet Bourne took first place with a well deserved 97 gross, leaving Chris Moulder as runner-up with a pleasing 98.
Winners of the EG Medal on the day were Lin Everitt (72 nett) and Helen Perry (75 nett) in the Silver Division and Wendy Hicks (72 nett) and Juliet Bourne (74 nett) in the Bronze Division.
The ladies were back out again at the weekend, playing in their Stableford match. Enjoying similar conditions, scoring was impressive as Pauline O’Hagan took a clear first place with 35 points and Vicky Watkins was second with 33.
Still at Broadway but beginning on a dreary and very damp day, 26 teams took part in the men’s Bonzo Roberts Memorial Trophy.
Donated in 1979 by Madge (Bonzo’s widow), the award aims to recognise the best pair to compete in the annual Foursomes Medal competition.
As enthusiastic and committed members of the club, Madge and Bonzo would have been delighted with the scores which were brought in as Steve Griffin and Mike Humpston earned victory with an outstanding 70.5 nett.
Runners-up with an equally impressive score of 72.5 were Dean Baxter and Sam McPherson, leaving Justin Loram and Ian Weatherhead to take third on countback. James Burke and James Neale achieved fourth position with 74 nett.
