LINDA CARRUTHERS held her nerve to win an exciting Broadway Golf Club ladies’ 36-hole Club Championship.

On a day which began more like November with winds gusting to gale force, the ladies had to battle hard to score in this gross challenge.

As the morning session ended, things were exceptionally close and the ladies went out to complete their second 18 holes with very few points separating the leaders. There was never any doubting the main contenders, however, as Carruthers and Vicky Watkins fought it out to the end, with Carruthers eventually winning by the narrowest of margins.

The final scores saw Carruthers crowned Broadway’s lady club champion as she earned the prestigious trophy with an outstanding 169 gross over two rounds, with Watkins coming in with an excellent 171 to take the runner-up silver salver prize.

Watkins also achieved best nett on the day, coming in with an incredible 153 to take the wonderful Julia Ward crystal vase.

On the same day, the ladies were competing in their Supporters Stableford and 9-Hole Qualifier in which Elizabeth Milnes-James achieved a commendable first place over 18 holes with a superb 35 points and Annabelle Carter was second with 34.

Joyce Gilbert took a well earned first over nine holes with 12 points, leaving Sue Byrd to take second with 11.
