BROADWAY Golf Club’s teams secured a superb clean sweep of the top three positions at the Gloucestershire Golf Union County Foursomes.
Twenty-two teams from across the county were vying for victory and competition was tough.
A tie for first place forced a play-off and Broadway’s father and son pairing Nick and Kieran Sutton had to battle hard but strode to victory on the 20th when Kieran sank a testing six-foot putt to seal the win.
In second place were Patrick Mills and James Neale who were also representing Broadway, as were third placed Mike Humpston and Steve Griffin in what is a brilliant achievement for the club.
Broadway’s ladies competed in their local round of the Ping 4 Ball Betterball and the pairs enjoyed some glorious sunshine and a course which played superbly.
Playing off a three-quarter handicap made scoring a challenge but coming in with an outstanding 37 points were winners Jayne Rose and Jenny Buchan, whose card will now be considered for national qualification.
Taking a comfortable second position were Linda Carruthers and Annabelle Carter who brought in an excellent 35 points, followed in third place by Louise Foulkes and Wendy Hicks with a well earned 32.
The following day, Broadway hosted its Am-Am as 92 ladies represented a mix of clubs from around the country.
Taking full advantage of playing on home soil were victorious Lyn Chambers, Helen Perry, Rosemary Shufflebotham and Chris Parkinson who brought in a staggering 146 nett.
Close rivals were Julia Ward, Rhiannon Gadsby-Evans, Wendy Hicks and Kate Bellamy – also a home team – who secured an excellent second position with a well deserved 147 nett.
