Bret trio join best in the west

A TRIO of Bretforton Hockey Club first team players – Lisa Workman, Karen Fynn and Julie Hall – flew the flag for the club in style when they played for the Over 40s West Regional Squad at the annual two-day Masters tournament which was this year held at Beeston Hockey Centre, Nottingham.

Having won their places at the event by impressing at regional trials, the Bret girls’ first taste of the action was against the ‘Combined Services’ and the team worked well to keep up the pressure and take control of the game, but unfortunately a last minute goal meant the West team had to settle for a 3-3 draw.

Feeling a little bit disappointed but not downhearted, West went into the next game feeling determined to stay in front.

Slick passing and good communication produced a fantastic performance against the South and a 3-2 victory was West’s reward.

Day two was always going to be a tougher day with the North, Midlands and East still to play and the weather conditions also proving quite challenging.

The West continued to fight hard throughout the afternoon, showing quick passing and running endlessly, but unfortunately the results were all defeats against North 4-1, Midlands 3-0 and East 2-1.

The Midlands side had many ex-England players within their squad which just demonstrated the high quality within this tournament.

The Bretforton trio all said how much they have gained from experiencing this level of competition – a great experience and an opportunity to play with and against some of the best players in the country.
