BRETFORTON Ladies 2nds sit third in the table – behind second placed Badgers on goal difference – after seeing their six-match winning run ended by their fourth placed visitors on Saturday.

The first half was dominated by Bret as attacks came from both wings in the shape of Hannah Dufty on the right and Amy Pinkney on the left.

In the previous game Pinkney returned to action following the birth of her daughter and it was clear she had not lost her touch and in this latest encounter she again looked in fine form with a number of fine runs down the left wing until an untimely injury forced Pinkney to be substituted.

Molly Stock and Ness Dufty dominated the midfield with some lovely skills which gave Shipton little room to manoeuvre and excellent build-up play from Nat Benwell in defence to Ness Dufty and Hannah Dufty on the right forced one of two short corners which Bret were awarded in the first half.

However, Ness Dufty could not quite find the backboard to give Bret the breakthrough and against the run of play it was a free hit just outside the 25-yard line which took the faintest of deflections to give Shipton the lead late in the first half.

Bretforton lost their shape in the second half and allowed Shipton to take command of the game, but Bret’s defence held on as Lesley MacKinnon, Benwell, Jane Wheeler and Andrea Cole all gave their all when the pressure was on.

With Shipton not taking their opportunities, Bret grabbed a deserved equaliser.

After a foul on Stock in the D, the resulting short corner was sent in by Lucy Cole to Ness Dufty whose shot deflected off a defender’s stick for a perfectly placed Hannah Dufty to deflect the ball into the right-hand corner.

Bret pressed to find the winner but it was not to be and they will bid to return to winning ways on Saturday when they visit Newent 3rds.

Saturday’s match ball was sponsored by A M Plastering.
