PERSHORE Town manager Quentin Townsend believes Bromsgrove Sporting are the clear favourites to win this season’s Midland League Division One title.
The new campaign kicks off on Saturday, with Pershore at home to Nuneaton Griff.
After finishing 13th last term, Pershore want to push for the top six, but the team to beat, says Townsend, will be Sporting.
Bromsgrove were pipped to the title last season – finishing runners-up for the third time in a row – and Townsend, who played for Sporting’s predecessors Bromsgrove Rovers, reckons they can go one better.
“It’s pretty fair to say Bromsgrove Sporting are the stand-out team by a mile and they’re my tip to win the division,” said Townsend.
“They have won all their pre-season games and last week’s FA Cup tie and they will be confident.
“Paul Smith has signed some cracking players and he has got a big squad, but the problem will be keeping them all happy. You can only play 11 every week.
“Having said that, I can’t see anyone challenging them. They are the overwhelming favourites going into the season.”
