FOR the first time in the club’s history Aston Somerville have won through to the final of the Vernon Turner Cup.

In a hard fought and close match they triumphed 73-69 over Droitwich Spa BC in the semi-final.

After five ends Droitwich were leading by three shots which changed to Aston leading by eight shots after ten ends.

By 15 ends Droitwich were back in the lead by three shots which had reduced to two shots after 18 ends and in the last three ends Aston managed to pull back on all rinks to finish just in front.

The win was secured by the rink skipped by Dave Hill who took a big win over Neville Collins. Aston’s other rinks all lost, by narrow margins on two of them, thus securing the overall win.

Aston will now play Worcester BC in the final on August 10 at Chester Road, Kidderminster.
