Roads remain closed as flood warning for the Avon is issued

Evesham Editorial 9th Mar, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A FLOOD warning has now been issued for the River Avon following the deluge of rain overnight as roads across the Vale remain closed.

The Environment Agency is now expecting the river level to peak at between 3 and 4 metres tomorrow (Thursday) and are warning that low lying properties along Waterside could be at risk.

The heavy rain has led to West Mercia Police urging drivers not to put themselves or others at risk by driving through floodwater and to take care with the large amount of standing water on the Vale’s roads.

The A44 at Wood Norton has now reopened after it was previously closed due to flash flooding.

The Jubilee Bridge at Fladbury, Brook Lane in Cropthorne and the B4080 Eckington to Bredon road and Farm Lane in South Littleton all remain shut.

Back Lane in Bretforton has also been closed between the Bridge Street junction and the Bretforton Road junction due to flooding.

And all ford crossings across Worcestershire have also been closed and drivers are being told not to attempt to drive through them.
