Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 11th Dec, 2016   0

‘HOLDING hands to the end’ was a heading in last Saturday’s daily newspaper.

An elderly couple who had been married for 55 years were both in hospital and kind hearted nurses moved their beds together so that they could hold hands in their final hours.

Their son commented they had a happy marriage and had never been apart, so it was wonderful that they could be together at the end.

Sadly, they died within two days of each other.

The television news on Monday showed the first meeting of a ‘Phone Friend’ from Age UK with the elderly gentleman she had spoken to on many occasions but had never met.

He did not have any family and he said that his ‘Phone Friend’ was like a daughter to him.

In a world of aggression and hatred it is so refreshing to read of stories like this, of care, compassion and love.

As Jesus Christ hung on the cross he looked down and saw his mother Mary and his heart went out to her in compassion, so he asked one of his disciples, John, to take care of her and to be a son to her in the future.

Even in the midst of the horrible agony Jesus saw his Mother’s need and he made provision for her.

The care, compassion and love of God are available to all of us because of the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Reach out in prayer to him today.
