THE CROWDS at the Badsey Flower Show last Saturday were able to see a flypast by a Second World War Spitfire.
Just one aircraft in an otherwise empty blue sky, which to the older viewers brought back memories of the Battle of Britain, when the skies above our nation were filled with fighting aircraft.
To the younger ones watching it is just something from history.
But it is more than ‘just history’ because that aircraft epitomised some of the most important days of the war that would eventually bring victory to the British nation.
Sir Winston Churchill summed it all up in his famous speech, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few”.
Today we live in a world that is so full of turmoil and unrest with the perpetrators of evil not so prominent now as those enemy aircraft of the early 1940s.
We live in a time when the word ‘Peace’ doesn’t seem to have much relevance with so much evil around us, from those tycoons who rob us of our finances to those individuals who attempt to take away our lives.
Jesus Christ came to earth to show us God’s Love and Peace, but it is not a peace against war and conflict but a peace that we can experience personally in our lives.
Whatever is happening to us, we can know the Peace of God by asking Jesus Christ to be our Saviour and Lord.
Jesus died alone on the Cross to make that possible for all who will call upon his Name and believe.
