Simon takes reins as RBL chairman

A NEW CHAIRMAN has taken the helm of the Pershore and District Branch of the Royal British Legion after Simon Dudfield won election to the post.

The vacancy was brought about by the resignation of Ken Tallis late last year due to his current heavy business commitments.

Simon had been acting branch chairman since November 2015 and was unanimously elected by the committee members to his new position.

Simon’s promotion brought about a vacancy for the position of Vice- Chairman which was filled by the unanimous election of Russell Dalton.

Russell will combine his new position with that of Branch Regimental Sergeant Major.

At the meeting, the Poppy Appeal Organiser, Roger Sainsbury, announced that the total of the 2015 Poppy Appeal was £18,800.

This was the second highest ever total raised by the branch. It is hoped that this year will top even that total.

The branch would like to thank everyone who contributed to the appeal either financially, by volunteering as a collector or allowing collections on their premises.

The need for the Poppy Appeal is just as high today as ever, for example the Battle Back Centre at Lilleshall is 100 per cent funded by the Royal British Legion to the tune of £5 million per annum and the Legion has pledged its support for at least the next 10 years

On display at the branch meeting was the Taffy Matthews Trophy for Small Branch Efficiency.

This was presented to the Branch Secretary, Gareth Jenkins, at the recent Worcestershire Annual General Meeting held at County Hall in Worcester.

The Legion is always on the lookout for more members and you don’t have to be ex forces to join

“Service not self” is the Legion motto.
