A POPULAR Vale business is set to celebrate its first anniversary by hosting a special fun day.

Knowle Hill Plant Centre will be holding the fund-raising event for all the family from 10am to 3pm next Saturday, May 3, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The garden centre are pulling out all the stops by including a kids workshop, bouncy castle, face-painting, handy craft stalls and talks about hanging baskets and bonsais, in a jam-packed day.

Macmillan nurses will also be hosting a coffee morning from 10am to 12pm at the centre.

Peter Moore, shop owner, said: “It’s the first time we’ve done something like this and we thought it would be a good cause to do it for.

“We know the ladies that run the coffee mornings so we approached them and said would you like to join us and raise some money?

“Lots of people have lost family members or know someone who has gone down with cancer, myself included, so it’s all for a really good cause.”

Peter admitted everything being used for the event was sourced from the Vale, including the entertainment and even the bouncy castle, and was aiming to raise between £2,000 and £3,000 for the cause.

“I would like to raise thousands and thousands if I could, but it depends how many people come up here,” he added.

“It would be lovely to raise £2,000 to £3,000 which if it’s busy it will do I would have thought.

“There should be a good turnout. It’s going to be a family day aswell and with the girls from Macmillan here they have all their followers that come up so it should be a really good day.”
