SUPPORTED learning students from Pershore College scooped a top gardening award at this year’s prestigious RHS Malvern Spring Festival.

Their Stars and Stripes garden inspired by the USA was awarded Best Schools’ Garden in the annual School Garden Challenge.

The theme was ‘Around the World’ with eight entries from across the Three Counties tasked with creating garden spaces inspired by a country or city of their choosing.

The Pershore entry consisted of a series of colourful floral displays and structures, created with recycled organic materials, showcased students’ favourite American cities – a coast-to-coast road trip in garden form.

Back in September, students aged from 14 to 25 years old, had voted to design the garden based on America and were supported by tutors to realise their vision.

The garden includes landmarks from Texas, New York, Hollywood and San Francisco.

Head of horticulture, Josh Egan-Wyer said: “We’re so incredibly proud of the teams involved in this garden. The skills learnt in this project will hopefully help our students continue to grow and develop.”

In other good news, Pershore crop technician apprentice, Emmeline Yourston from Bransford Webbs was named Student of the Year 2025.

She received a £150 voucher, engraved trophy and pair of secateurs from TV presenter and host Nicki Chapman in the Festival Theatre stage.
