McDonald's make bid to open 24/7 in Evesham

EVESHAM’S McDonald’s could be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week if restaurant bosses’ plans are approved by planning chiefs.

The fast food joint on Charity Crescent currently opens from 5am until 2am after changes were made last year, but now McLean Restaurant Ltd, who own the franchise; want to extend the opening hours once again to bring it into the line with the majority of restaurants in the UK.

Franchise owner Sarah McLean said she believes the changes won’t lead to an increase in noise or traffic in the area during the night.

The application is currently being dealt with by Wychavon District Council planning chiefs, and a decision is still to be made on whether or not it should go to the planning committee.

Speaking to the Observer, Sarah McLean, who runs McLean Restaurants Ltd, said: “The restaurant has been trading from 5am to 2am for about 12 months.

This was a ‘toe in the water’ approach as part of my longer term strategy to trade 24/7 provided the first step did not cause any loss of amenity to the local residents.

“Increasing the trading hours will make the restaurant easy to operate without the close down and re-open, but more importantly will provide a more consistent approach to the way the business trades.

She said just over half of the McDonald’s estate, around 631 sites, currently trade 24/7.

“I expect the additional trade at Evesham to be marginal in the additional early hours.

“Customers in the main will be people on their way to and from work, the emergency services and people either going on or returning from holiday.”It’s about providing a consistent brand message and extending and improving the service we offer.

“Above all, I want to continue to be a good neighbour to the local residents.”
