A POPULAR Evesham business has cooked up a storm to scoop a major national honour at the ‘Oscars’ of the fish-frying industry.
Starchip Enterprise has won the Best Mobile Fish and Chip Operator Award after frying out on top at the 2016 National Fish and Chip Awards on Wednesday (January 20) organised by Seafish.
Starchip Enterprise was crowned the winner of the UK wide award which recognises fish and chip businesses that excel at operating on a mobile basis, during a prestigious ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel in London.
To earn their spot at the top, Starchip Enterprise has been appraised across a wide variety of judging criteria including the policies they have in place regarding the responsible sourcing of raw ingredients, the preparation of products, how levels of customer satisfaction are recorded and responded to and marketing and promotional activity.
The business also received mystery judging visits from an awards auditor to further ascertain the quality of the fish and chips on offer and the levels of customer service provided by staff.
Commenting on their award win after receiving the distinguished trophy from awards host, Nigel Barden, voice of food and drink on BBC Radio 2, business owner Jeff Warren said: “After being shortlisted as a finalist in this award category last year, we’re extremely proud to be named the winners for 2016.
“We’ve worked so hard over the years and it’s fantastic to be recognised for our commitment and passion.
“We’re out on the roads day and night serving the local communities, villages and care homes, but to know you have made someone’s day by giving them fish and chips makes it all worthwhile. I hope we’ll be serving up fish and chips for years to come!”
