A CARING South Littleton man is preparing to lace up his running shoes and hit the streets of the capital for a charity close to his heart.

Dan Holloway will be among thousands taking part in this year’s London Marathon which takes place next Sunday, April 24.

The 24-year-old is running the marathon in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young and hopes to raise more than £2,000.

And with just over a week to go until Dan has to tackle the 26.2 mile route, the kind-hearted runner explained why the charity was so important to him.

“A college friend passed away from this condition at just 16 years of age, so it means a lot to representing the charity in such a great event,” he said.

“I have been involved with the charity for the past eight years, as this condition is known to affect many young people throughout the country.”

Dan has been aided in his quest with an overwhelming fund-raising effort from many local Vale businesses.

“Budget Waste Management in Honeybourne organised a fund-raising event ‘Festive Friday’ just before Christmas that was fantastic.

“Phoenix Fitness Solutions have supported me throughout my training keeping me injury free, as well as organising a raffle with multiple prizes to give away.

“Please see their Facebook page for more details.

“Hartpury College have also been a huge support throughout helping to push my fund-raising through multiple events at the college.

“It has been fantastic to see many local business support the cause I am running for and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me so far,” he added.
